About the School
As of 2025, the School is home to approximately 1,100 students enrolled in its flagship program, Linguistic Support for Intercultural Communication. Students choose one of seven specialized tracks: Public Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Regional Marketing, International Tourism, Tourism and Hospitality, Web Analytics in Marketing, or Information Services.
Our academic staff comprises over 90 instructors across five dedicated departments.
Students sel ect a primary foreign language fr om English, German, or French, and may add a second language from a wide range of options, including Spanish, Italian, Korean, Arabic, Turkish, and Swedish.
The School actively collaborates on a variety of international projects with partner universities worldwide. Key partners include Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Moscow Pedagogical State University, Perm National Research Polytechnic University, Pyatigorsk State University, Uzbek State University of World Languages, and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Kazakhstan.
History of the School
The School traces its origins to 1994 with the establishment of the Faculty of Western European Languages. Initially led by Alexander Mikhailovich Zakharov, Candidate of Political Sciences and Associate Professor, its focus was on training translator-referents in English, German, and French.
In 2001, this foundation evolved into the present-day School of Intercultural Communication. Its first Dean was Nikolai Petrovich Nikolaev, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor, who led the School until 2016. Core instruction was delivered by the Department of Modern Translation Technologies, headed by Tatyana Ilinichna Golikova, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor.
Since 2016, the School has been under the leadership of Dmitry Igorevich Tupik, Candidate of Philological Sciences and Associate Professor.
Our Departments
- Department of Foreign Language Communication
Our instructors equip students with advanced English language skills as a global lingua franca. The curriculum emphasizes effective cross-cultural communication, teaching learners to navigate nuances in speech, interpret contextual and cultural meanings, and understand the socio-historical associations embedded in language. Core training includes phonetics, listening comprehension, oral fluency, grammar, and writing.
- Department of Modern Translation Technologies
This department delivers the complete theoretical and practical curriculum in translation for the School's degree program across all years of study. Course offerings span from foundational subjects like Translation Theory and Fundamentals of Translation to advanced practical skills in Written Translation, Consecutive and Simultaneous Interpreting, Translation of Specialized Texts, and Text Editing Technologies for Translators.
- Department of Speech Studies and Communication Theory
Guided by the research school of Communicative Linguistics and Communication Theory, the department explores communicative-pragmatic discourse categories and the function of language in real-world contexts. It is home to the Public Relations specialization and the master's track in Communication Management. Relevant courses include Intercultural Communication Theory & Practice, Public Communication Strategies, PR Theory & Practice, Pragmatics, Semiotics of Culture, and Analysis of Communicative Behavior.
- Department of History and Social Sciences
This department provides instruction across the social sciences and humanities and supports the Regional Marketing and Tourism & Hospitality specializations. A key research initiative is the study of "The Politics, Practices, and Consequences of Nazi Economic Genocide in Occupied Belarus (1941-1944)," based on captured German documents held in the National Archives of Belarus. Its diverse course portfolio includes History of Belarusian Statehood, Belarus in European Civilization, Philosophy of Science, World Art, International Relations, Tourism Management & Marketing, and Legal Aspects of Foreign Economic Activity.
- Department of Physical Education and Sports
The department ensures all students, regardless of initial fitness level, participate in Physical Education classes. It also runs athletic clubs in 14 different sports. University teams consistently achieve top rankings in the Republican Universiade, earning medals in powerlifting, karate, volleyball, badminton, and other disciplines.
