About the project

The idea of a university museum became especially relevant in 2023, when MSLU was going to celebrate its 75th anniversary. From the very beginning, the concept was based on describing the university development as a part of the country's history. For decades the leading linguistic institution of the Republic of Belarus continues to be the centre of development of linguodidactics, translation studies and linguistics. Many statespeople of the Republic of Belarus have become graduates of our Alma Mater.

The project quickly grew from the concept of a ‘museum’ into something more: a tool for self-discovery, restoration of historical ties between generations; a place of meetings and dialogue between the bearers of unique expertise and those who are just beginning their professional journey.

The choice of location and format is not accidental either: Building A, wh ere the museum is located, was once a breakthrough in civil engineering in the BSSR. Emphasis is put on informativeness and functionality, on the possibility of constant supplementation of the exposition and its accessibility. A lot of things are digitised, and thus the museum goes beyond its physical space. The line between the physical and the digital; past, present and future is blurred.

The museum was inaugurated on 28 June 2024, the last day of the 75th anniversary academic year.

We want to believe that by years of its existence, the MSLU museum project will multiply its historical wealth and open many interesting things to its visitors.
