The Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages (BSUFL) is today the leader in language education in the Republic of Belarus and firmly holds a leading position in the post-Soviet territory.

Education in 25 Foreign Languages

Currently, BSUFL provides instruction in 25 foreign languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Hungarian, as well as Russian and Belarusian as foreign languages. The university also offers 18 specializations, such as Rhetorics, Linguocultural Studies, Corpus Linguistics, Belarusian as a Foreign Language, Russian as a Foreign Language, Literary Studies, Orthophony, Language Testing Technologies, Speech Technologies, Specialized Translation, Linguistic Support for Tour Guiding, Simultaneous Interpreting, Audiovisual Translation, Literary Translation, Public Relations, Tourism and Hospitality, Web Analytics in Marketing, and Regional Marketing.

Today, our students can obtain the following qualifications:

  • Linguist. Teacher of Two Foreign Languages (in specified language pairs)
  • Linguist. Specialist in Information Technology (with a specified language)
  • Specialist in Intercultural Communication. Translator-Referent (in specified languages)
  • Linguist. Translator (in specified languages)
  • Teacher of a Foreign Language

These qualifications are offered across a wide spectrum of language combinations and specializations. This deep level of specialization enables the university to fully meet the contemporary educational needs of students in the humanities, linguistics, and foreign language pedagogy.

BSUFL's structure comprises 6 schools, such as the School of Chinese Language and Culture, the School of English Language, the School of German Language, the School of Romance Languages, the School of Translation and Interpreting, and the School of Intercultural Communications. It also includes master’s programs, with 6 specializations; postgraduate studies, with 7 specializations; doctoral studies, with 4 specializations; an Institute for Advanced Training and Retraining; a Confucius Institute, and the "LinguaPark" Educational Center.

The university hosts the Educational and Methodological Association for Linguistic Education and has concluded 31 cooperation agreements in the field of pedagogical innovation.

Over 7,000 students study at BSUFL, supported by 1,500 staff members. The university has become an alma mater for students from more than 44 countries worldwide.

BSUFL consistently meets its admission targets. Our graduates are in high demand both domestically and internationally, pursuing careers as translators, interpreter-guides, public relations specialists, foreign economic relations specialists, teachers, editor-translators, art historians, junior research associates, editors, style editors, proofreaders, technical editors, referents, journalists, reporters, software testers, logisticians, and more.

Modern Facilities

The university boasts excellent modern facilities: 5 academic buildings, a contemporary library, sports facilities, and 4 comfortable dormitories. Students have access to state-of-the-art equipment for language learning, including simultaneous interpreting booths, phonetics laboratories, and multi-purpose training rooms. BSUFL also operates its own sound recording studio, numerous self-study rooms, and lecture halls fully equipped for online and video conferences.

The university library is unique, housing a collection of over 1 million items. This includes educational, scientific, reference, and fiction literature in Belarusian, Russian, and 113 foreign languages.

BSUFL's International Activity

BSUFL is actively engaged in the international arena. It is a member of the World Association of Linguistic Universities, the Core Organization for Languages and Culture of the CIS, and the UN University Partners Consortium. The UNESCO Chair "Peace and Tolerance through Language Learning and Civic Education" operates productively at BSUFL.

We maintain successful cooperation with numerous higher education institutions worldwide. Currently, 118 active cooperation agreements are implemented with institutions from 33 countries, such as Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belgium, Hungary, Georgia, Egypt, India, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Mexico, the UAE, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ecuador, and Japan, as well as with international organizations, including the UN, UNESCO, and the Consortium of Humanitarian Universities of the SCO Member States.

Since September 2011, the Confucius Institute at BSUFL has been organizing Chinese language instruction across educational institutions in Minsk, Grodno, Mogilev, and Molodechno, operating a total of 9 educational platforms.

Furthermore, BSUFL effectively operates 16 Foreign Language and Culture Centers, which regularly host significant international events.

BSUFL's Research Activity

We have established 4 world-renowned scientific schools, over 10 research programs, and 3 dissertation defense councils.

The university plays a key role in shaping the innovative language education policy of the Republic of Belarus. Our faculty developed the Concept of Foreign Language Teaching in the Republic of Belarus, publish the journal "Foreign Languages," and actively contribute to author teams creating new-generation school textbooks and other didactic materials, including electronic resources.

BSUFL houses modern scientific laboratories and centers, such as the Center for Development of Information and Didactic Materials, creator of materials for the national school-leaving exam in foreign languages, the Center for Linguistic Education, a reference and advisory service for foreign language teachers, the Laboratory of Automated Translation, responsible for translating the Constitution, the Electoral Code of Belarus, and many other documents, and the Lexicographic Center, which produces multilingual dictionaries and reference books. Work is currently underway to establish a Website Language Support Center, a PR Technologies Center, and a Distance Learning Center.

Student Life at BSUFL

The extracurricular life of BSUFL students is rich with diverse and engaging events. The university offers ample opportunities for young people to develop creative talents, engage in physical education and sports, and realize their interests through social activities.

The university's assembly hall, equipped with modern sound, lighting, and multimedia technology, hosts various cultural and student events. Students can participate in choral and pop singing, folk and contemporary dance, express themselves in the Club of the Funny and Inventive, or KVN, and implement their own creative and social projects.

The BSUFL sports complex features a well-equipped games hall, tennis hall, athletic gymnastics hall, therapeutic exercise hall, and an athletics arena, unique in Belarus, with a special floor covering. Students can engage in basketball, volleyball, futsal, table tennis, athletic gymnastics, shaping, hand-to-hand combat, self-defense, wushu, taekwondo, orienteering, and tourism.

University Rector Natalya Evgenyevna Lapteva presents the formula for every student's success as a combination of five components: innovative courses, international internships, scientific forums, practical experience, and extracurricular activities.
