Russian as a Foreign Language

The training course “Russian as a Foreign Language” includes the following study programs:

  • Russian Language (Elementary)
  • Russian Language (Pre-Intermediate)
  • Russian Language (Intermediate)
  • Russian Language (Upper-Intermediate)
  • Russian Language (Advanced)
  • Russian Language for Intercultural Communication (for citizens of the Republic of India)
  • Russian for Cooperation with African Countries
  • Russian for Technical/Engineering Specialties.

The number of study hours per week is usually 20 hours (five days a week, four academic hours per day). The number of study hours for the programs “Russian for Intercultural Communication (for citizens of the Republic of India)” and “Russian for Cooperation with African Countries” is 12 hours per week.

The tuition fee for the preparatory educational program for admission to Belarusian educational institutions is 2,420 USD per academic year. The tuition fee for “Russian for Intercultural Communication (for citizens of the Republic of India)” and “Russian for Cooperation with African Countries” is 1,715 USD for 12 months. 

The tuition fees for “Russian for Technical/Engineering Specialties” are 1,530 USD for 10 months and 1,835 USD for 12 months.

Admission Conditions

To study at BSUFL, a candidate must receive an official invitation from the university and obtain a study visa to enter Belarus. This visa should be requested at the embassy (or consulate) of the Republic of Belarus in your country of residence (or the one closest to it).

To receive an invitation, you must send the following documents to the university:

  1. An application form indicating your level of Russian, the planned duration of study, and the specific embassy (or consulate) where you will apply for your visa
  2. A copy of your passport (showing your full name, date and place of birth, passport number, date of issue, and expiry date)
  3. A notarized translation of your passport into Russian (or Belarusian) including all the above elements.

Notes:

Documents for the invitation can be sent as scanned copies to the Department of International Relations email: ipo@mslu.by.

Documents are accepted no earlier than 3 months before the start of the course.

The deadline for submitting the documents is 1.5 months before the start of the course.

On the next working day after arriving in the Republic of Belarus (excluding Saturdays and Sundays), foreign citizens must personally submit the following to BSUFL:

  • Original passport for registration with the Migration Office in Minsk at your place of residence. (Please note: your study period cannot exceed your registration period, and your registration cannot exceed your study period).
  • Original education certificate (or a notarized copy) and a notarized translation of the certificate into Russian (or Belarusian).
  • Original medical certificate (or a notarized copy) and a notarized translation into Russian (or Belarusian). This certificate must confirm you are fit to study in the climate of Belarus and be certified by the official health authority of your home country. The medical certificate usually includes chest X-ray results, an HIV test, and a doctor’s statement confirming you have no infectious diseases and that the Belarusian climate (moderate continental) is not harmful to your health.

To enrol at BSUFL, foreign citizens must also:

  • Obtain mandatory medical insurance. You may use an existing policy if it explicitly states it is valid in the Republic of Belarus for the duration of stay and covers at least 10,000 EUR. Please note: the Migration Office requires a notarized translation of your insurance policy into Russian (or Belarusian) to grant temporary residence. If you do not have insurance, you can purchase it at the National Airport or at the border. You may also obtain insurance at BSUFL if you entered the Republic of Belarus without a policy or the current policy expires before studies end.
  • Sign a contract with BSUFL and pay the tuition fees in BYN.
  • Undergo a medical examination at the student clinic. This costs approximately 100 USD. This is required for everyone living in the dormitory and for those enrolled in Russian language courses for longer than 3 months.

Travel expenses to Belarus, return travel, and all related transit costs are paid by the student.
